That really is a pointless exercise; in my opinion these books should be read as a whole or not at all.

It was a fast-paced enjoyable read. Instead he has an extended family that shares his powers, some being allies and some enemies. If you like quality prose, skip this book.

Lord how Rpger cringed when reading these. Ksiy this was a leap of faith. The main narrator is Corwin yes, it is first person, but don’t worry, the writing is a masterful combination of beauty and down-to-earth jokes and grumblings. These books are classic, not to mention necessary, if you ever want to play Amber Diceless Roleplaying – or get any Amber references in any other fantasy games.

But then Zelazny seems to hit a groove again, and we get these delightful, cracking moments. Corwin isn’t a bad protagonist, but the problem is that his initial amnesia not a big spoiler, so keep those pitchforks away forces at least a third of the entire span of these books to be exposition. This, after Leiber’s Nehwon series, is another fantasy classic which I just can’t appreciate nor recommend.

It is definitely a book to read for the journey, not the destination. Zelazny’s schtik is explaining how magic works in an almost science fictiony sort of way.

They are reduced to places that Corwin must go to do this thing that advances the plot. I zelzny like to break up a series by reading other books in between even when they are collected in a single volume but I found I just couldn’t in this case.

The twists are unexpected and the machinations of the nine princes of Amber are fairly reallistic. Nine Princes in Amber opens with the protagonist escaping from a hospital where he has apparently been brought after an accident which leaves him with broken legs and head injuries.
