I was on the line about whether to add this book to the “enjoyably bad” shelf, since I couldn’t decide if it was actually bad. The writing style is pretty good, but I had a problem with the characters and the way the author tells her story – like it’s a cautionary tale and it should teach teenagers what to avoid in life and how to behave.
Made me laugh and it made me cry – my favorite kind! Every time I start to read one of those books, I put it down again because I get afraid my writing is going to turn out exactly like this.

When one of Traviss schemes goes too far, Ruby ditches him, but she has already fallen for him. I initially failed to grasp the entire point of her risky and intrepid actions; she annoyed me all the way to my fingertips.
Ruby ends up following her conscious and does the right thing. Caletti has the gift of voice and tells her story with humor, insight, and compassion. She was more like family, though.
I got to go the way I liked: Yes, it’s true that a bsby of the book is taken up with the story of how Ruby falls for Travis. She becomes more risky and does immoral things she would never dreamed of doing herself.
